The name Mark Selbee might not be on the tip of people’s tongues, but soon, it will be. Come April 30, Selbee will be looking to extend his undefeated streak as he fights at K-1’s Battle at Bellagio IV and elevates his career to an elite level. At 6 foot 5, and 225 pounds, Selbee has garnered many achievements in the world of kickboxing and MMA. He has won the IKF Super Heavyweight Full Contact Champion, as well as being a medalist at the US Open Tae Kwan Do Championships. With all of this, Valor Fighting is proud that Mark Selbee will be representing them on one of the biggest shows of the year.
“He is a tremendous worker, and has great heart,” says Eddy Millis, Valor co-owner and Shark Tank trainer. Millis said it best, “His size is what scares people, his skills are what hurt people!” Rick Bassman feels this could be the show for Selbee to garner a following as a future superstar. “He has all the potential, he is just waiting for the opportunity, and April 30, opportunity comes knocking.”
Regarding his training Selbee said, “Nobody that has as many things going on in life is going to be in as good of shape as I am, that’s a fact.” Despite that fact that he works a full-time job, and has his wedding upcoming in June, Selbee said, “I am going to be competitive, I can promise you that!”
In regards to fighting for K-1, he said, “This is a huge opportunity, they are without question the best competition in the world.” Rick Cheek, Selbee’s opponent surly will be a testament to that. Cheek is undefeated at 10-0 with 9 KO’s. Selbee however, not to be outdone is 22-0 with 12 KO himself! “Everybody that gets to K-1 is there for a reason, and I expect Cheek to be a warrior and a professional fighter.”
As dangerous as Mark Selbee is, he is equally as modest. “I am excited to be on the same K-1 card with some of the legends of the sport that will be at Battle at Bellagio. To be in there with them and fighting with them, I am very excited. Where the sport is today, there is not quite the opportunity to get the big fights and make the big money, but with the right knockout, it could be an exciting night for me, I am hoping for the best.”
So with Mark Selbee, Sean O’Haire, and Mighty Mo, Valor Fighting is well represented at the Battle at Bellagio IV. April 30 will be an important stepping stone for Valor Fighting as a whole as they will begin to establish themselves as a great place for superior fighters. K-1 is a martial arts fighting sport that derives its name from its inclusion of a wide array of combat disciplines, including Karate, Kung-Fu, and Kickboxing (“K”), and its intent to determine one champion in one ring (“1”). After being staged for the first time in Japan in 1993 under the direction of founder Master Kazuyoshi Ishii, it later evolved into the country’s most popular sport and achieved popular culture status there as its athletes turned into larger-than-life celebrities.
