VALOR'S September 2005 Fighter of the Month:

Kit Cope

There are very few people in this world who are world class fighters.  There are even fewer that are very good fighters.  Only a select few can call themselves champions.  However, there is only one Kit Cope!  And he will be the first to tell you so.  Cope may just be the most entertaining fighter going today.  With his cocky and brash attitude, he "puts people to sleep, that's what I do.  You don't get mad at a bird for flying, because that's what they do, and I put people to sleep!"  Cope has proven himself all over the world in the world of Muay Thai and is now making his mark on the world of MMA.  Cope, who was featured on an MTV True Life special about being a fighter, has recently began fighting MMA, and is becoming a threat to all fighters in the genre,  At the recent Valor Home of the Brave show, Cope not only knocked out his opponent, but knocked his mouthpiece to the floor with a single punch!  Aside from being a world class fighter, Cope is also a world class person.  He makes time for any and all fans, and as he states in the interview below, would rather stay at home than go out and party.  Judging by his actions and words, that may shock some, but that is what makes Kit Cope so unique.  His physique is ripped and tattooed, representations of himself, and he treats his body like a fighter should.  Cope looks to make a name for himself in the next few years as a champion of the MMA world, including an appearance this season on The Ultimate Fighter 2.  So keep your eyes out for Mr. Cope, as looks to be a household name in the very near future.

Kit Cope himself, would tell you that there are many more reasons in addition to what has already been written as to why he is the September 2005 Valor Fighter of the Month!  Below is an interview conducted with Kit Cope, which is as entertaining as Mr. Cope himself.  Valor wants you, the fans, to know our fighters on a personal level, and not just world class fighters.  Our fighters are real people, down to earth, and great to all of our fans.  That is why we get you closer to the fighters than ever before.  So enjoy the read, and keep checking back for more information on Valor events, as well as more Valor Fighter profiles and features.

What are your goals in life?

My Dad told me once that the greatest thing to be in life is a good father, so I guess it would be to be a good father.  I don’t have any kids, but it is a long term goal.

What are your goals in MMA?

I would like to continue fighting the best.  I built myself up in Muay Thai, I fought and beat the best.  I currently am building myself up in MMA and am looking forward to fighting the best and beating the best there.  My goal has nothing to do with a title belt.  My goal has to do with retiring with a really good resume.

What is your life philosophy?

A man is the sum of his experiences.

How did you get started fighting?

I was a wrestler in high school and was looking for something to do in between wrestling seasons.  I accidentally happened to find Master Toddy’s in Las Vegas.  I took to it very well and have been stuck the last 12 years.

What sports have you played in the past?

Wrestling, Soccer, Football, Baseball, Gymnastics, Cheerleading (Oh Yeah Baby!), and Sport Bike Riding.

Why do you fight?

I have an addiction to adrenaline.  I also didn’t get enough attention as a kid.

Do you have a regular job, if so, what is it?

I own a company which does corporate fitness programs.

Tell me some interesting facts about yourself.

I have scoliosis.  In 8th grade they told me I would never play sports.

Tell me about the person you are.

I am a farmer kid, a country boy who comes from a trailer.  I grew up a poor kid.  I am your regular, laid back, homebody type of guy.  I am not a partier or nightclub guy.  I would just as soon stay at home, play with my dogs and spend time with my girlfriend than go out clubbing or anything.

Brief history of your career, major fights, memories?

I have fought in 12 countries, my record speaks for how I did there, and it is probably not even half way over!

What is the worst injury you have suffered thus far, and how did it happen?

I had a detached clavicle, and it happened riding motorcycles.

What is your favorite hold, move, etc?

I love elbows, because they cut!

Are you married, do you have any kids?

I am not married, I have no kids.  I’m not married yet, I’ll be married before you know it!

I would like to thank Xyience, punishmentathletics.com, Master Toddy, Dean Lister, ISA, & Nogi.
